BCWLE's second annual conference is coming up on April 13th, 2023 at the Coast Langley City Hotel & Convention Centre.

Speakers

Our keynote speaker, Michelle Douglas, served as a military police officer in the Canadian Armed Forces until she was honourably discharged in 1989 as part of the military's "LGBT Purge". Michelle brought a landmark legal challenge that formally ended the military's policy of discrimination against LGBT service members. Thus began 30 years of social justice and human rights activism. As a survivor of Canada's LGBT Purge, Michelle will share the experiences of those affected by this devastating policy of discrimination. The LGBT Purge was one of the longest-running and largest-scale violations of human rights of any workforce in Canadian history - and few people know about it.

Inspector Jillian Wellard and Superintendent Jeanette Theisen, lead investigators from the RCMP, will discuss the 2019 search of two BC murder suspects responsible for the deaths of Chynna Deese, Lucas Fowler and Leonard Dyck. The manhunt spanned four provinces over 23 days, captured international attention and ended with an intense search in northern Manitoba. This investigation involved hundreds of RCMP officers and required a coordinated effort with the Canadian Armed Forces, the FBI, the Australian police and community members.

Retired Abbotsford Police Chief Bob Rich will share some lessons that he has learned as a leader as well as help identify when you may be ready for the challenge of leadership.

Retired Assistant RCMP Commissioner Dan Malo
and Regional Sales Manager Sam Dhanoya will present a training session on Axon technology.
